BYUTranslate was developed by Giovanni Tata, Director of Creative Works at Brigham Young University. The app is an instant translator with speech recognition and spoken translations in over 30 languages.
Behind the application is a database of translations approved by native speakers. When a phrase is translated, the app will search the database for an approved translation. If the phrase is not in the database the app will use Google to translate the phrase. After translation the user can review the translation, either voting it as correct/incorrect, or submit a new translation to the database.
